Just two weeks out from their mini-camp in Florida, the Edmonton Eskimos have added another body to their roster.
The Eskimos announced on Tuesday that they have signed non-import defensive end Cameron Sheffield. The 26-year-old played his college football at Troy and was a fifth-round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs (142nd overall) in the 2010 NFL draft. After missing the 2010 season with a neck injury, he played in 16 games in 2011 for the Chiefs, starting in one and making seven tackles. The Chiefs waived him in September, 2012 and he spent some time with the Dallas Cowboys last year, before being released in August.
At Troy, Sheffield had 109 solo tackles, 15 sacks and 28.5 tackles for a loss over a 47-game career.
At six-foot-two and 268 pounds, Sheffield brings some bulk to a growing Eskimos’ defensive line. The team signed another non-import end, in Willie Jefferson, on April 3. The Eskimos currently have 73 players on their roster.
